19Move shift rod from side to side while pushing on the propeller shaft to ensure proper alignment ofthe bearing housing locator pin into the locator pin hole in the gearcaseTap the end of the propeller shaft with plastic or rawhide mallet to fully seat the bearing housing20Apply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to the threads of the shift rod cover screwsInstall the screwsTighten the screws to torque of 60-84 inIbs(7-9 Nm)

21Position the driveshaft thrust bearingthrust washer and shim(s) CD (selected earlier) on the driveshaft

22Apply light coat of OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to the gearcase area that contacts mounting flange of the bearing housingDo not coat inside bearing housing bore surface of the gearcase23Using OMC Driveshaft Seal Protector, PI 318674, slide the driveshaft bearing housing onto the driveshaft24Pull up on the shift rod to engage FORWARD gearTurn the gearcase upside down by rotating the holding fixtureBe sure any excess grease is removed from the pinion needle bearingsDegrease inside taper of the pinionPosition the pinion in the gearcase25Degrease the driveshaft taper and install the driveshaftTurn the gearcase right side up26Lightly coat the threads of the pinion nut with outboard lubricant and install on the driveshaft using OMC Pinion Nut Starting Tool, PIN 342216Turn the driveshaft by hand to engage the nutRemove the pinion nut starting tool before applying torque to pinion nut
