23The forward gear bearing and bearing housing are serviced as an assemblyIf either are worn or damaged, replace the entire assembly24Inspect the water screen for blockageRemove the water intake screens by removing screwsRemove both halves of the water intake screen from the gearcase25Remove the pinion bearing only if it needs to be replaced

V4Before attempting removal, take out the bearing retaining ring on top side of the pinion bearing, using long-handle needle-nose pliers such as Snap-on No911 CP or equivalent
V6Before attempting removal, take out the bearing retaining screw or you'll damage the gearcaseReplace the screw's a-ring
If the pinion bearing must be replaced, use OMC Bearing Remover and Installer, PIN 391257, and assemble it as follows:
