1Avoid accidental starting of engine while servicing; twist and remove all spark plug leadsDisconnect battery cables at the battery2Remove the air silencer from the engineRotate the propeller shaft and shift the gearcase to FORWARDRemove the shift rod link retaining pin

3Push the shift rod link toward the powerhead to disengage the shift rod4Note where the index mark on the gearcase aligns with the index number of the adjustable trim tab so the trim tab can be reinstalled in the same positionRemove the screw and trim tab from the gearcase5Using 5s inthin wall socket, remove the screw with the flat washerW
