General Safety Warnings

Before working on any part of the outboard, read the section called Safety at the end of this manualWhen replacement parts are required, use genuine avIC parts or parts with equivalent characteristics including type, strength, and materialFailure to do so may result in product malfunction and possible injury to the operator andor passengersTo prevent possible eye injury, always wear SAFETY GLASSES while servicing the unitAlways read and follow safety related precautions found on containers of hazardous substances like parts cleaners, primers, sealants, and sealant removersThe flywheel cover is machinery guardUse caution when conducting tests on running enginesDo wear jewelry or loose clothingKeep hair, hands, and clothing away from rotating partsReplace any locking fastener (locknut or patch screw) if its locking feature becomes weakDefinite resistance to tightening must be felt when reusing locking fastenerIf replacement is indicated, use only authorized replacement or equivalentThe FFI ignition system presents serious shock hazardThe primary circuit operates at 250 volts; the secondary circuit operates in excess of 35,000 voltsUse caution to avoid injury from shock, or injury from your reaction to shockDo not handle primary or secondary ignition components while the engine is cranking or runningTo prevent injury, all spark plug leads must remain connected to spark tester adjusted to 7116 in(11 mm) during all cranking testsBefore starting any fuel system disassembly, carefully relieve fuel system pressureProtect against hazardous fuel spray by attaching suitable device to the vapor separator test point and slowly release pressureHave container available to catch residual fuel
