13Align holes in the clutch dog with slot in the propeller shaftInstall the clutch dog on the shaft with "PROP END" facing rear of the shaft
14Slide the propeller shaft onto the shifter shaft, align the hole in the shaft with the hole in the clutch dog, install the pin and then, new clutch dog retaining springPosition three coils over each end of the pin, making sure none of the coils overlap or are loose15Locate the propeller shaft assembly and align the forward bearing housing with the detent lever toward the topPush the detent lever down, into REVERSE positionBe sure the thrust bearing and the thrust washer are properly positioned Insert the propeller shaft assembly into the gearcase, being sure to align the shift housing pin with hole in forward end of gearcase housing16Lubricate two new shift rod cover O-rings with OMC Triple-Guard greaseInstall the O-rings into the shift rod cover17Place the shift rod grommet and shift rod spacer (25 in (635 mm) models) on the shift rodGrease the threaded end of the shift rod and insert it through the coverTurn the shift rod while pushing it through the cover to avoid damaging the O-rings
