Water Pump Servicing If the gearcase has been in service for any length of time, it is good policy to install water pump repair kitTo install the repair kit, proceed as follows:
Removal
1Remove the four screws to the gearcase
retaining the impeller housing
2Slide the water pump assembly off the driveshaftRemove the impeller drive camimpeller a-ringimpeller plateand impeller plate gasket Discard the gasket
DisassemblyAssembly
1Remove all parts from the housingInspect the housing for cracks or melting2Apply drop of OMC Adhesive sealant in the a-ring groove at each of the four ribs Do not allow any adhesive to get into the air bleed groove in the impeller housingIf this groove is blocked by adhesive, the pump may lose its prime and not pump water
rn 3Place the a-ring in groove in the impeller housing4Lightly coat the exterior of the impeller cup with OMC Gasket Sealing CompoundInstall the cup in the impeller housingThe liner locks in place in the housing with an index tab CD[] 5Lightly coat the liner with oilWith counterclockwise rotation, install the impeller into the liner with slot for impeller cam facing out[] 6Run thin bead of OMC Adhesive sealant in the seal groove, and install the special-shaped a-ring seal
