Manual Primer Servicing
Function Tests
1Remove primer hose from nipple in carburetorPlace hose end into suitable container to catch fuel2Squeeze fuel tank primer bulb to fill carburetor bowls with fuel3Operate primer pump twiceFuel should squirt from the hose into the container indicating primer is functioning4If primer pump fails to pump fuel from hose, restricted or kinked hose or inoperative primer pump may be the cause5Remove hose from small nipple on top side of primer pumpInspect hose for kinks or obstructionsOperate primer pumpFuel should squirt from small nipple
6Inspect primer nipple to ensure nipple is free of obstructionsUse OMC Nipple Cleaning Tool, PIN 326623, to clean the metering hole in nipple7If primer pump fails to pump, inspect inlet hose between primer pump and carburetor for kinks and obstructions8If hose is open and not kinked, remove and disassemble primer pump assemblyIfthe primer pump was not working in the above test or is externally leaking, replace the a-ringsDisassembly
