18Move the pistons up so the connecting rod bearings are against the crankpinPlace one bearing half between crankpin and rod and one on top of crankpinOrient and place the connecting rod cap on the needle bearingsOil threads of the rod cap screwsInstall and tighten the screws in stages to final torque of 60-70 inIbs(7-7,5 Nm)132119Thoroughly clean and degrease the crankcase mating flange of the cylinder block with OMC Cleaning Solvent and let air dry1331 20Apply OMC Locquic Primer to the mating flange of the crankcase and let air dry1341 21Apply OMC Gel-Seal" sealant to the cylinder block flangeThe application must cover the flange evenly and consistently without being excessiveThe application must not come within 114 in(6 mm) of the labyrinth seals or bearings INote OMC Gel-Seal" sealant has shelf life of at least one year
when stored at room temperatureTest the OMC Gel-Seal" sealant or replace it if the age of the tube can not be determinedUsing old OMC Gel-Sealsealant could cause crankcase air leaks22Lower the crankcase into placeLightly coat threads ofthe two center and two bottom main bearing screws with OMC Gel-Seal" sealantInstall the six main bearing screws finger tight23When the crankcase is seated, install and firmly seat the crankcase taper pin24Using soft face mallet, lightly tap bottom ofthe crankshaft to seat the lower main bearing25Tighten the six main bearing screws in stages to final torque of 144-168 in.lbs(16-19 Nm)Begin with center screws and work outward in spiral pattern26Install and tighten the flange screws to torque of 60-84 inIbs(7-9 Nm)13511361 27Install the lower bearing retaining ring with BEVELED EDGE OUTThe gap of retaining ring must be centered around the oil hole in the front of the crankcaseL,;3;;",;;3J._ _=1
