2Place the eraser end of pencil in the No.1 spark plug holeSlowly turn the flywheel by hand in clockwise direction until the greatest length of the pencil is outside the spark plug holeThis indicates the No.1 piston is near top dead center
3Make reference mark on the starter housingMake mark on the flywheel rim directly beneath the starter housing reference markLabel this mark "No.1"
