16Apply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to the threads of the shift rod cover screwsInstall the screwsTighten the screws to 60-84 inIbs(7-9 Nm)17Position the driveshaft thrust bearingwasherand shim(s) (selected earlier) on the driveshaft

18Lightly apply CIVIC Gasket Sealing Compound to the gearcase area that contacts mounting flange of the bearing housingDo not coat inside bearing housing bore surface of the gearcaseUsing CIVIC Driveshaft Seal Protector, PIN 312403, slide the driveshaft bearing housing onto the driveshaft19Install the pinion and the driveshaft as follows: Pull up on the shift rod to engage the FORWARD gear position Degrease tapers of the pinion and the driveshaftInstall the pinion and the driveshaft in the gearcase
