22Lightly apply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to the gearcase area that contacts mounting flange of the bearing housingDo not coat inside bearing housing bore surface of the gearcaseUsing OMC Driveshaft Seal Protector, PIN 318674, slide the driveshaft bearing housing onto the driveshaft23Pull up on the shift rod to engage FORWARD gearTurn the gearcase upside down by rotating the holding fixtureBe sure any excess grease is removed from the pinion needle bearingsDegrease inside taper of the pinionPosition the pinion in the gearcase24Degrease the driveshaft taper and install the driveshaftTurn the gearcase right side up25Lightly coat the threads of the pinion nut with outboard lubricant and install on the driveshaft using OMC Pinion Nut Starting Tool, PIN 342216Turn the driveshaft by hand to engage the nutRemove the pinion nut starting tool before applying torque to pinion nut26Using OMC Driveshaft Holding Socket, PIN 311875, OMC Pinion Holder PIN 334455, and OMC Wrench Retainer, PIN 341438, torque the pinion nut to 70-80 ftIbs(90-108 Nm)I Note Overtorquing or undertorquing the pinion nut will reduce
