14Push down on the shift rod to engage REVERSE gear positionUnthread the shift rod from the detent leverRemove the six screws, shift rod, and cover assembly from the gearcaseDiscard the cover gasketRemove and discard the two O-rings from inside the cover [1]
15Remove the propeller shaft assembly from the gearcase

E!I116Insert small screwdriver under one end of the clutch dog spring and remove it, from the groove, by unwrapping it from around the clutch dogDiscard the spring
17Push the pin out of the clutch dogThe bearing housing assembly will now pull out of the end of the propeller shaft and the clutch dog will slide off the splines
18Pull the forward gearthrust bearingand thrust washer off the bearing housing19Push down on the detent lever to make sure it's in the most depressed positionLift out the shift shaft and cradle 20Pull up on the detent lever until it snaps into the NEUTRAL positionPush the pivot pin out of the housing, then reach inside and pull the shifter off the detent lever
