To avoid accidental starting of engine while servicing, twist and remove all spark plug leads

Removal

1Remove the exhaust housing cover plate and gasket to expose the shift rod connector2Shift the motor to FORWARD gear positionRemove the lower shift rod connector screw
3Remove the four gearcase retaining screws retaining nut with lock washer
