Troubleshooting with an Ammeter
Careful analysis of the hydraulic unit current requirements allows evaluation of the electric motor and certain mechanical componentsThe specifications contained in the chart are for static hydraulic testsDo not attempt to perform the following tests while the boat is under power1Connect 0-25 amp DC ammeter in series with the red lead between the terminal strip and relay bracket2Observe the ammeter and stopwatch while running the hydraulic unit through several complete cycles Range (015) represents the engine's trim range Range (1665) represents the engine's tilt range3Compare your test results to the values listed in the Performance Chart for your specific motor style4As you interpret your test results, there are three basic possibilities Low Current Drawcheck for: aLeaking valves bWeak relief valve springs cDamaged pump dLeaking -rings High Current Drawcheck for: aPump binding bEngine binding cSticking valves dDamaged relief valve springs Normal Current Drawcheck for: aDamaged pump control piston bMalfunctioning check valves 5Refer to Page 9-22 for hydraulic unit servicing informationIII ID
