rn 4.ofUse 0IVk: adhesives, and 0IVk: Gel-Seal II sealant from the Gel Seal Gasket Remover to remove all traces gaskets, and cylinder block and crankcase5Carefully remove any carbon accumulation from the tops and ring grooves of the pistonA ring groove cleaning tool can be made by breaking an old ring and grinding an angle on its endDo not damage ring grooves while cleaning6Thoroughly wash entire cylinder block and crankcase with warmsoapy water to remove all traces of contaminants7Air dry cylinder block and crankcase Blow all holes and passageways with compressed air
To avoid person injury, wear eye protection and set compressed air pressure at less than 25 PSI (172 kPa)
8Cover the cylinder walls with liberal amount of Johnson or Evinrude Outboard Lubricant to protect them from corrosionInspection 1Before any inspection process can begin, all internal components must be clean and free of excess oil2Make visual inspection of all internal componentsCheck for unu sual wear patterns, scuffing or deterioration of aluminum parts, heat-related discoloration of bearings and bearing surfaces, and broken components[] 3Check for cylinder head warpage using piece of bar stock or machinist's straightedge and feeler gauge set Cylinder head warpage must not exceed 0.004 in (0,10 mm) end to end Resurface or replace head if warpage exceeds this dimension]4Use micrometer to measure the diameter of each crankpin and main bearing journalThe lower main bearing journal would only be measured if the bearing was removed for another reasonRefer to Engine Specifications, Section 1, for dimensions
