& Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes while disassembling and reassembling manual starter1Remove ropeRefer to Starter Rope Replacement[] 2Let pulley slowly unwind until all tension is off the springRemove the E-ring, and lift pawl and links off
3Remove the starter spindle screw and locknutHold the pulley down in housing and lift out spindleCarefully lift out pulley, leaving spring in housing&
Do not remove spring with housing facing upDo not lift spring out of housing by hand or with pliersSpring is under tension and will cause injury if accidentally released4Keep fingers away from uncoiling springTurn starter housing over and jar on bench to remove spring
