7Remove spindle screw from the housing 8Remove pulley from housingTo service rope, tie knot and route rope in pulley as shownWrap rope around pulley in counterclockwise direction
9To service rewind spring, turn housing overright side upJar the housing against bench to dislodge springCleaning and Inspection
1Wash metal components in solvent and dry with compressed air2Inspect the rewind spring for cracked or broken end loops3Examine the pawl for wear, and inspect the links4Remove starter rope from pulleyInspect rope and replace if frayedCut new rope 59 in(150 cm) long Fuse '2 in(12 mm) of both ends and pull through towel to make threading rope through holes easier5Examine the pulley and the starter housing Look for sharp edges and rough surfaces that could fray the starter ropeFile and polish to remove6Examine starter lockout partsReplace any worn or damaged parts
