Special Operating Conditions Salt Water

8 thru 15

Fresh water internal flushing is recommended after use in salt, polluted, or brackish water to prevent deposits from clogging the cooling passages Remove water flushing plugAttach water hose and turn on water to begin flushing
NoteMotor can be stopped or running at idle while flushingDo not flush engine with water system that exceeds 45 PSI
[] Run engine in test tank or large container of fresh water, such as 30-gallon (113 liter) garbage can, for at least five minutes as soon as possible after each use in salt, polluted, or brackish water to prevent deposits from clogging cooling passages: Run engine in well -ventilated area Remove propeller Water level must be in(10 cm) above the antiventilation plate Engine in NEUTRALRun at fast idle only

INote Water must flow from the water pump indicatorAll Models During long periods of non-use, tilt motor so that the gearcase is out of the water, unless the temperature is below 32 (00 C)When removing motor from water, allow cooling system to drain completely by placing motor in normal (vertical) position Weedy Water Weeds can block the water intakes and cause engine to overheatWeeds on the propeller will cause motor to vibrateRun at slow speeds and reverse motor frequently to clear weeds from propellerCheck water pump indicator oftenRemove weeds from propeller and water intakes before operating in clear waterFreezing Weather To avoid motor damage, keep gearcase submerged in water at all timesBefore operating in freezing temperatures, check gearcase lubricantIf leakage is found, service gearcase sealsWhen removing motor from water, keep motor in normal (vertical) position until the cooling system is completely drained Note Water that leaks into gearcase or is left in the cooling system can freeze when motor is removed from water
