17Apply OMC Triple-Guard Grease or Lubriplate 777 to the handle end of the starter ropeUsing OMC Starter Rope Threading Tool, PIN 378774, thread the starter rope through the handlePress the starter rope into the channel of the rope anchor, with end of starter rope butting firmly against end of channelPress the anchor into the handle18Check operation of the starter pawl when the starter rope is pulled outThe starter pawl should extend when the starter rope is pulled and retract when the starter rope recoils

19Install the starter lockout assembly lockout lever springand thick washer to the starter housing Place the thin washer under head of the screwTighten the screw securelyInstallation

1Position the starter assembly onto the motorPlace the lifting ring on the rear screw mounting bossInstall the five starter housing retaining screwsBe sure to place washers between the starter housing rubber mounts and the motorTighten the three starter housing screws to torque of 10-12 ftIbs(14-16 Nm)Tighten the two starter handle bracket screws to torque of 60-84 inIbs(7-9 Nm)2If equipped with starter interlock, apply OMC Triple-Guard Grease or Lubriplate 777 to the starter lockout slide area of the starter housingPlace the starter lockout slide in the channel of the starter housingLoosely secure the starter lockout cable to the starter housing with cable clamp and screw
