6Remove pinion and plastic weather cover from pinion shaft[] 7Remove the driven gear and thrust washer
8Using No.2 external retaining ring pliers, remove the retaining ring and drive gear from the armature shaft
9Loosen and remove the two thru-boltsMark the end cap orientation, and remove the cap10Gently, tap the starter frame with rubber mallet to loosen
11Check end of shaft or inside end cap for insulator capInspect and replace, if necessary12Note the alignment marks by the positive terminal studHold the armature in place, and slide the frame away from the gear housing
