27Lightly apply CIVIC Gasket Sealing Compound to the gearcase area that contacts mounting flange of the bearing housingDo not coat inside bearing housing bore surface of the gearcase
1271 28Using CIVIC Driveshaft Seal Protector, PI 318674, slide the driveshaft bearing housing onto the driveshaft29Push down on the shift rod to engage REVERSE gearTurn the gearcase upside down by rotating the holding fixtureBe sure any excess grease is removed from the pinion needle bearingsDegrease taper of the pinionPosition the pinion in the gearcase30Degrease the driveshaft taper and install the driveshaftTurn the gearcase right side uplubricant and install on the driveshaft using CIVIC Pinion Nut Starting Tool, PIN 342216Turn the driveshaft by hand to engage the nutRemove the pinion nut starting tool before applying torque to pinion nut
