Lubricate two new shift rod cover a-rings with OMC Triple-Guard greaseInstall the a-rings into the shift rod coverPlace the shift rod grommet and shift rod spacer (TX, TZ models) on the shift rodGrease the threaded end of the shift rod and insert it through the coverTurn the shift rod while pushing it through the cover to avoid damaging the a-ringsnew shift rod cover gasket Position the gasket on the gearcaseInsert the shift rod and cover assembly into the gearcase as shown, and thread the shift rod into the detent lever about four turns19Move shift rod from side to side while pushing on the propeller shaft to ensure proper alignment of the bearing housing locator pin into the locator pin hole in the gearcaseTap the end of the propeller shaft with plastic or rawhide mallet to fully seat the bearing housing
