Output Tests ill

All cranking output tests must be performed with spark plugs installed and torqued in the cylinder headIf necessary to remove the spark plugs, be sure to keep the spark tester away from open spark plug holes
STEPTOTAL OUTPUT TEST

[!] 1Twist and remove all spark plug leadsr:;l2Adjust the gap on the spark tester to 716 in(11 mm)Connect tester leads to the spark plug leadsSecure tester clip to clean engine groundTo prevent possible arcing of high voltage, route tester leads at least in(51 mm) from any metal surface
i or spark tester during cranking tests
'" To avoid possible shock hazard, do not handle ignition coils

3If equipped, install the emergency stop switch clip and lanyard assemblyCrank the engineSpark should jump each tester gap alternately If tester shows good output on all cylinders, go to STEPRUNNING OUTPUT TEST If tester shows no output on cylinders thru 8, go to STEPSHIFT SWITCH TEST If tester shows good output on at least one cylinder, go to STEPCHARGE COIL TEST If tester shows no output, go to STEP STOP CIRCUIT TEST4Refer to Troubleshooting Sequence Chart Page 3-50Start with your specific fault symptom and continue troubleshooting in sequenceIt is possible for the ignition system to have problem but still produce good outputIf the engine "pops" or "backfires" during starting, the ignition may be out of timeCheck the following: Coil primary wire routing Spark plug lead routing Flywheel condition and location Synchronization and linkage adjustments
