6Install piston rings on each pistonTapered ring must be installed in top grooveSpread each ring with ring expander just enough to slip it over the head of the piston and down into place7Coat he piston and cylinder bore with oil101 8Place the piston in OMC Ring Compressor, PIN 339754, (PIN 339755 for oversize pistons)Make certain that the rings are correctly positioned in their grooves with respect to the dowel pinsDamaged pistons and broken rings may result from imperfect alignment of the ring gap and the dowel pins l!J

The piston rings must be correctly located on their dowel pins to prevent permanent powerhead damage
19l 9Start the piston into bore of the cylinder with deflector of
the piston (sharp edge) toward intake port side of the cylinder blockLoosely install the cylinder head to prevent the pistons from falling outf101 10If removed, oil and press new lower main bearing onto the crankshaftWhen pressing on the bearing, support the crankshaft between the two lower counterweights and press againstthe lettered side ofthe bearingInstall the retaining ring in groove of the crankshaft with sharp edge of the ring facing away from bearingf111 11Oil the upper main bearing surface of the crankshaftSlide the upper main bearing onto the crankshaft with lettered side facing the flywheel end of the crankshaft
