I1II 26Apply light coat of OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to
the gearcase area that contacts mounting flange of the bearing housing Do not coat inside bearing housing bore surface of the gearcase27Using OMC Driveshaft Seal Protector, PI 318674, slide the driveshaft bearing housing onto the driveshaft28Push down on the shift rod to engage REVERSE gearTurn the gearcase upside down by rotating the holding fixture Be sure any excess grease is removed from the pinion needle bearingsDegrease taper of the pinionPosition the pinion in the gearcase29 Degrease the driveshaft taper and install the driveshaftTurn the gearcase right side upLightly coat the threads of the pinion nut with outboard lubricant and install on the driveshaft using OMC Pinion Nut Starting Tool, PIN 342216Turn the driveshaft by hand to engage the nutRemove the pinion nut starting tool before applying torque to pinion nut
