20Wrap the housing with shop clothRotate the detent lever 90 in either direction, then pull the detent lever out of the housing 21Remove the detent ball

and spring

V6Remove the 25 forward gear needle bearings22The forward gear bearing and bearing housing are serviced as an assemblyIf either are worn or damaged, replace the entire assembly23Remove the pinion bearing only if it needs to be replacedBefore attempting removal, take out the bearing retaining ring (j on top side of the pinion bearing, using long-handle needle-nose pliers such as Snap-On No911 CP or equivalentIf the pinion bearing must be replaced, use OMC Bearing Remover and Installer, PIN 391257, and assemble it as follows:
