5Remove the large thrust washer reverse gear from the gearcase
thrust bearingand
6V6Remove the small thrust washer from either the face of the reverse gear or the propeller shaft
[] 7Remove the four driveshaft bearing housing screws with washers
8Pull up on the shift rod to engage FORWARD gearThis ill provide necessary clearance to remove the pinion nut
musing a,nc Driveshaft Holding Socket, PI of the driveshaft 9Remove the pinion nut from the bottom by 331875OMC
Pinion Holder, PIN 334455 CD and OMC Wrench Retainer, PI 341438 Q)Pad the handle of the holder to prevent damage to the gearcase[]]10Pull up on the driveshaft to remove it from the gearcaseThe driveshaft to pinion taper is locking taperIf necessary, use a,nc Puller, PIN 390706and a,nc Backing Plate, PIN 325867 (h), to break the lockInstall the tools as shown by clamping them around the driveshaftAlternately tighten the two vertical screws against the backing plate inserted between the puller and the gearcase until the driveshaft pops loose from the pinion, then remove the tools
