15Move shift rod from side-to-side while pushing on the propeller shaft to ensure proper alignment of the bearing housing locator pin into the locator pin hole in the gearcaseGently tap the end of the propeller shaft with plastic or rawhide mallet to fully seat the bearing housing 1551 1561
16Apply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to the threads of he shift rod cover screwsInstall the screwsTighten the screws to 60-84 inIbs(7-9 Nm)17Position the driveshaft thrust bearingwasherand shim(s) (selected earlier) on the driveshaft

gearcase area that contacts mounting flange of the bearing housing Do not coat inside bearing housing bore surface of the gearcaseUsing OMC Driveshaft Seal Protector, PI 312403, slide the driveshaft bearing housing onto the driveshaft19Install the pinion and the driveshaft as follows: Pull up on the shift rod to engage the FORWARD gear position Degrease tapers of the pinion and the driveshaftInstall the pinion and the driveshaft in the gearcase
