[]J 3To adjust, stop the engine to prevent contact with rotating partsLoosen the timing adjustment screw nut Turn the adjustment screw in or out, as necessary, to correct the timingOne turn clockwise retards timing about 1; one turn counterclockwise advances timing about 14Tighten the nut and recheck the timing adjustmentIdle Speed 1The boat must be in the water, under normal operating conditions, with the correct propeller installedThe boat's movement must be unrestrainedThe boat must not be tied to dock or trailer2Tiller modelsturn the idle speed knob counterclockwise to the full SLOW position3Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature4When speed is reduced, engine must idle at 675 25 RPM in FORWARD gear[] 5Tiller modelsmove the throttle cable bracket (MJ to change idle speedVerify cam follower pickup point after making adjustment6Remote modelsadjust the throttle arm stop screw to change idle speed7Run engine in gear at, or near, full throttle for one minuteQuickly reduce speed to SLOW (700-800 RPM) and shift into NEUTRALEngine should continue to run smoothly8If engine stalls or backfires, the idle mixture is too leanRefer to Carburetor Adjustment, Section 2
