45Thoroughly clean and degrease the crankcase mating flange of the cylinder block with OMC Cleaning Solvent and let air dry46Apply OMC Locquic Primer to the mating flange of the crankcase and let air dry47Apply OMC Gel-Seal" to the crankcase mating flange of the cylinder blockThe application must cover the flange evenly and consistently without being excessiveThe application must not come within 14 in(6,4 mm) of crankcase seal rings or bearings Gel-Seal" has shelf life of at least one year when stored at room temperatureTest the Gel-Seal" or replace it if the age ofthe tube can not be determinedUsing old Gel-Seallcould cause crankcase air leaks48Lower the crankcase into place49Install main bearing screws finger tight50When the crankcase is seated, install and firmly seat the crankcase taper pins51Torque main bearing screws in stages to 18-20 ftIbs(24-27 Nm)Begin with the center screws and work outward in spiral pattern136152Temporarily install the flywheel and key to rotate crankshaft and check for bindingIf binding occurs, tap bottom of crankshaft with rawhide mallet and recheck53Install the crankcase flange screws and torque to 60-84 inIbs(7-9 Nm)1371138154Apply OMC Locquic Primer and OMC Nut Lockto the upper and lower crankcase head screws and install themTighten the screws to torque of 96-120 inIbs(11-14 Nm)139155Apply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to outside diameter of the temperature sendersSeat the senders in the cylinder heads56Apply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to two new cylinder head cover gasketsInstall the cylinder head coversStarting with the center screws, tighten to torque of 60-84 inIbs(7-9 Nm)
