25 33Lightly apply OMC Triple-Guard grease to new O-ring and install it on the bearing housingCarefully apply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to both housing flanges
26 34Vertically align the propeller shaft housing screw holes
and position the anode downwardInsert the housing assembly until it seatsHold the driveshaft and rotate the propeller shaft to engage the internal splines of the two propeller shaftsPush the housing in by hand until the retaining tab slots are flush with those in the gearcase housing
1271 35Install the two retainers, washers, and screwsApply
OMC Ultra Lock-271 to the threads of the two retainer screwsInstall the screws and torque them to 20-24 ftIbs(27-33 Nm)
28 36Before installing lubricant, pressure test and vacuum test
the gearcase as follows: Remove the oil level plug and screw in pressure test gauge Pump pressure up to 3-6 PSI (21-42 kPa)If pressure gauge indicates leakage, submerge the gearcase in water to determine source of leakage as evidenced by bubblesIf the gearcase pressure gauge does not indicate leakage, increase pressure to 16-18 PSI (110-124 kPa)If pressure does not hold, submerge the gearcase in water and check for source of leakageMake necessary repairs and repeat test Screw in vacuum testerPump out to 3-5 in(76-127 mm) of mercury and see if vacuum holdsThen, pump out to 15 in(381 mm) of mercury and checkIf the gearcase fails to hold on either test, put oil around suspected sealIf leak then stops or oil is drawn in, that seal is defectiveWhen the gearcase checks OK, refill with the proper lubricant29 Fill the gearcase with lubricant as follows: Secure the gearcase in an upright position Remove the oil level plug and the drainfill plugReplace their seals, if damaged Fill the gearcase with OMC Ultra-HPF gearcase lube until it appears at the oil level holeInstall the oil level plug, then the drainfill plugTighten them to torque of 84-86 inIbs(9-10 Nm)
