f18l 22Apply light coat of OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to the gearcase area that contacts mounting flange of the bearing housingDo not coat inside bearing housing bore surface of the gearcasef19l 23Using OMC Driveshaft Seal Protector, PIN 318674, slide the driveshaft bearing housing onto the driveshaft24Pull up on the shift rod to engage FORWARD gearTurn the gearcase upside down by rotating the holding fixtureBe sure any excess grease is removed from the pinion needle bearingsDegrease inside taper of the pinionPosition the pinion in the gearcase25Degrease the driveshaft taper and install the driveshaft26lightly coat the threads of the pinion nut with outboard lubricant and install on the driveshaftTurn the driveshaft by hand to engage the nut1201 27Turn the gearcase right side upUsing OMC Driveshaft Socket, PIN 311875, and OMC Pinion Nut Holder, PIN 334455, torque the pinion nut to 70-80 ftIbs(90-108 Nm)Overtorquing or undertorquing the pinion nut will reduce pinion lifeDo not reuse damaged pinion nuts'21l 28Position the washers on the driveshaft bearing housing screwsApply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to the threads ofthe screwsInstall and tighten screws to torque of 168-192 in Ibs(19-22 Nm)122 29Oil, then install the thrust bearing Q) and thrust washer Q) on the hub of the reverse gear
