f21l 26Apply light coat of OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to the gearcase area that contacts mounting flange of the bearing housing Do not coat inside bearing housing bore surface of the gearcase122 27Using OMC Driveshaft Seal Protector, PIN 318674, slide the driveshaft bearing housing onto the driveshaft28Push down on the shift rod to engage REVERSE gearTurn the gearcase upside down by rotating the holding fixtureBe sure any excess grease is removed from the pinion needle bearingsDegrease taper of the pinionPosition the pinion in the gearcase29Degrease the driveshaft taper and install the driveshaft30Lightly coat the threads of the pinion nut with outboard lubricant and install on the driveshaftTurn the driveshaft by hand to engage the nut123 31Turn the gearcase right side upUsing OMC Driveshaft Socket, PIN 311875, and OMC Pinion Nut Holder, PIN 334455, torque the pinion nut to 70-80 ftIbs(90-108 Nm)Overtorquing or undertorquing the pinion nut will reduce pinion lifeDo not reuse damaged pinion nuts124 32Position the washers on the driveshaft bearing housing screwsApply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to the threads ofthe screwsInstall and tighten screws to torque of 168-192 in Ibs(19-22 Nm)III III
