Gearcase Servicing, Counter-Rotation Removal Remove the gearcase as described on Page 6-11Disassembly 1Remove the propeller and mounting hardwareInspect the propeller for spun hub'11 2Remove the oil level plugthen the drainlfill plugand drain the lube from the gearcase into containerInspect the lube and the magnets on the plugs for metal chipsThe presence of small metal chips can indicate normal wear of the gears, bearings, or shafts within the gearcaseLarge metal chips can indicate extensive internal damageMake note for future reference while inspecting internal componentsInspect the drained lubricant for water or burned odorWater in the lubricant will give it milky appearanceOverheating will give the lubricant black color and burned odor3Remove the two screws, washers, and retainers holding the propeller shaft bearing housingf31 4Thread OMC Adapter, PIN 432398onto OMC Slide Hammer, PIN 432128until it seatsThread adapter completely onto propeller shaft, and pull propeller shaft and bearing housing assembly out of gearcase'4l 5Remove the four driveshaft bearing housing screws with 1sl 6Pull up on the shift rod to engage FORWARD gearThis E.I will provide necessary clearance to remove the pinion nutf51 7Remove the pinion nut from the bottom of the driveshaft by E.I using OMC Driveshaft Holding Socket, PIN 311875and OMC Pinion Nut Holder, PIN 334455 Pad the handle of the holder to prevent damage to the gearcase
