141 Remove the large thrust washerthrust bearingand reverse gear from the gearcase1sl 6Remove the small thrust washer from either the face of the reverse gear or the propeller shaft1sl 7Remove the four driveshaft bearing housing screws with rJl 8Pull up on the shift rod to engage FORWARD gearThis will provide necessary clearance to remove the pinion nutrJl 9Remove the pinion nut from the bottom of the driveshaft by using OMC Driveshaft Holding Socket, PIN 311875and OMC Pinion Holder, PIN 334455 CDPad the handle of the holder to prevent damage to the gearcase'sl1gl 10Pull up on the driveshaftto remove itfrom the gearcaseE.I The driveshaft to pinion taper is locking taperIf necessary, use OMC Puller, PIN 390706 Q), and OMC Backing Plate, PIN 325867to break the lockInstall the tools as shown by clamping them around the driveshaft with the tool's set screw aligned with the water pump drive cam slotThen, tighten the set screw into the slotAlternately tighten the two vertical screws against the backing plate inserted between the puller and the gearcase until the driveshaft pops loose from the pinion, then remove the toolsr,Ql 11The bearing housingshims thrust bearingand thrust washer will come out with the driveshaft III ID
