Gearcase Service Removal
i and remove all spark plug leadsDisconnect battery cables
at the battery
'" 1Avoid accidental starting of engine while servicing; twist
'11 2Rotate the propeller shaft and shift the gearcase to FORWARDRemove the shift rod link retaining pin
121 3Push the shift rod link toward the powerhead to disengage
the shift rod4If equipped, remove the trim tab from the gearcase1al 5Using 5S inthin wall socket, remove the screw flat washer6Using 916 insocket, remove screw 7Remove the four gearcase retaining screws8Remove the gearcase assembly from the exhaust housing, being careful not to bend the shift rodThe lower inner exhaust housing may come out with the gearcaseSecure the gearcase in suitable holding fixtureIn preparation for gearcase disassembly, remove the water pump as described in Water Pump Servicing
