STEPPOWER COIL TEST
Ground Test 1Disconnect 6-pin Packard connector between stator and power pack2Attach 6-pin Packard test adapter from OMC Ignition Test Kit, PIN 434017, to stator connector3Set peak-reading voltmeter to "POS" and" 500"4Connect the meter black lead to clean engine groundAlternately connect meter red lead between orange, orangeblack stator leadsCrank engine and observe meter at each connection: Any reading indicates power coil is grounded Locate and repair ground, or replace stator assembly5If no reading is indicated in Step 4, go to Output TestOutput Test 1Set peak-reading voltmeter to "POS" and" 500"2Attach meter black lead to orange stator leadAttach meter red lead to orangeblack stator lead3Crank engine and observe meter: If meter shows 50 volts or higher, proceed to next step indicated in Troubleshooting Sequence Chart, Page 3-24 If meter shows less than 50 volts, check condition of wiring and connectors If wiring and connector condition is good, go to Ohmmeter TestOhmmeter Test INotel All ohmmeter tests must be performed with engine NOT running1Calibrate ohmmeter on appropriate scale2Connect meter between orange and orangeblack stator leads: Meter must show 100 10 ohms 3To test for grounded condition, connect ohmmeter black lead to clean engine groundAlternately connect ohmmeter red lead between orange, orangeblack leads: Any needle movement indicates power coil or leads are grounded Locate and repair ground, or replace stator assembly4Complete all circuits disconnected during this testE u
