1Wash metal components in solvent and dry with compressed air2Inspect the rewind spring for broken end loops and weak tension3Examine the pawl for wear and inspect the links4Inspect starter ropeReplace if frayedCut new rope 5912 in(151 em) longFuse 12 in(12 mm) at each end of the rope5Examine the pulley and the starter housingLook for sharp edges and rough surfaces that could fray starter ropeSmooth all rough edges6Examine starter lockout partsReplace any worn or damaged partsAssembly
rJl1Place shield into starter housingLubricate starter housing, shield, spring, and pulley CD bearing surfaces with OMC Triple-Guard grease1sl2Insert spring through starter housing Q)Hook spring end into pulley hub slot as pulley is placed in position in the starter housing
