Neutral Start Switch Adjustment, 9.9 and 15 Correct neutral start switch adjustment is possible only if the shift lever adjustment is correctINotel Disconnect the battery cables at the battery1Shift the gearcase into NEUTRALDisconnect the starter motor red lead at the motor2Attach continuity light or ohmmeter between the starter lead and the neutral start switch lead at the terminal board3The continuity light or ohmmeter should sow continuity
ill continuity should be indicated in either position
I:A 4Shift the gearcase into FORWARD and REVERSENo
1al 5If adjustment is required, remove the fuel pump and swing it out of the wayLoosen the neutral start switch screws With the gearcase in NEUTRAL, center the plunger on the neutral start switch with the lobe on the lockout leverRaise the neutral start switch to depress the plunger between 3132 to 5 32 in(2,3-3,8 mm)Tighten the neutral start switch screwsRepeat the test6Connect the starter motor red lead to the starter motorTighten the nut securelyApply OMC Black Neoprene Dip to the connection Reconnect the battery cables
