Hydraulics Troubleshooting If the power trim and tilt system has malfunctioned and the cause has not been determined, the following chart should help you locate the problemKeep manual release valve and valve body in stock for troubleshootingUse these parts when the Service Steps call for the substitution of "known good" partsEither of the manual release valves may be used in 3-cylinder, V4, and V6 engines to TEST for leakdown and other symptomsHowever, USE ONLY THE CORRECT PART when installing replacement1If the trim and tilt does not work and its motor neither runs nor hums, refer to Power Supply Troubleshooting in this section2If the engine tilts part way up but does not do so smoothly or with constant sound, there is probably air in the system due to low fluidFill reservoir and bleed (purge air from) the system, as described in Routine Inspections3If you suspect mechanical binding, open the manual release valve and manually tilt the motor up and down to test for bindingIf parts are binding, refer to SectionMidsection
