Assembly 1Lubricate the armature shaft bearing surface with one drop of SAE No10 oilLubricate pinion helix on armature shaft with GE Versilube, OMC PIN 330615 Ial
2If removed, install retaining ring and washer end of armature shaft
on drive
3Assemble drive end cappinionanti-drift springand spacer to drive end of armature shaftInstall new locknutUsing strap wrench to prevent damage to arm'ature, tighten nut to torque of 27-34 Nm (240-300 in Ibs 20-25 ft Ibs4Assemble armature to frame and magnet assembly, aligning marks on drive cap end and frame
5Install insulated brush and terminal set in commutator end cap with long lead in slotPosition the insulatorsflat washer CD lockwasherand nut as shown in figure
INote Reversing these brushes will cause motor to run backwards[!Q] 6Install brush holder CD, brush springs, and ground brushesScrews secure ground brush leads and holderInsert insulated brushes in holder
Assemble commutator end cap to frame and field aligning notch and rib suitable tool for holding brushes in place can be made from putty knife8Put drop of oil on thru-bolts before assembling starter motorInstall thru-bolts Tighten thru -bolts to torque of 11-12 Nm (95 -110 inIbsSeal with OMC Black Neoprene Dip around end caps
