Electric Starter Servicing Removal
INote Disconnect the battery cables at the battery1Disconnect the starter motor lead at the motor2Remove the carburetor air silencer assembly for improved access] 3Remove the three screws starter to the powerhead Disassembly 1Observe alignment marks on commutator end cap and drive end cap for correct reassemblyRemove two thru-bolts from starter motorthe commutator end cap and carefully remove it to prevent the loss of four springs under the two ground brushes and insulated brushes Tap the drive end cap to loosen it and pull armature from the frame You will find that the permanent magnets in the frame will resist removal of the armature If necessary to remove pinionuse strap wrench to hold armatureRemove locknutspacer CD anti-drift spring 0, piniondrive end capand thrust washer from armature Discard locknut as it loses its locking feature, once removed
