Gearcase Servicing2.3, 3.3 Removal
'" 1To avoid accidental starting of engine while servicing, test and remove spark plug leadGearcase does not have to be removed from exhaust housing to repair water pump
2Remove cotter pin, propeller and drive pin from the gearcase
'11 3Remove the two screws attaching the gearcase to the LJ exhaust housing4Withdraw the gearcase carefully to avoid damaging the driveshaft and water tube5Pull tube and upper driveshaft from gearcase6Drain the gearcase by removing the oil level plug and oil filldrain plugDisassembly

Inspection at the beginning of this section1Remove the two screws and washers2Lift impeller cover from propeller shaftrJl 3Lift the impeller from the cavity of the gearcase headIf the water pump components are worn extensively, rebuild the water pump using water pump repair kit4Remove impeller drive pin from propeller shaftf41 5Slide the gearcase head off the propeller shaftIf necessary, rotate the gearcase head and tap the ears with malletDiscard the gearcase head O-ring 6Remove pinion retainer from end of driveshaft7Pull driveshaft out of gearcase and remove piniono u
