1Twist and remove all spark plug leads1,l 2Adjust the gap on the spark tester to 7116 in(11 mm)Connect leads to the spark plug leadsSecure tester clip to clean engine groundINotel To prevent high voltage arc, route tester leads at least in(51 mm) from any metal surface3If equipped, install the cap onto the emergency stop switchCrank the engineSpark should jump each tester gap alternately4Refer to Troubleshooting Sequence Chart, Page 3-24Start with your specific fault symptom and continue troubleshooting in sequenceit is possible for the ignition system to have problem but still produce good outputIf the engine "pops" or "backfires" during starting, the ignition may be out of timeCheck the following: Coil primary wire routing Spark plug lead routing Timing wheel and timing sensor assembly Timing sensor cover placement Synchronization and linkage adjustments
