hi Before beginning assembly procedures, all gearcase compoAfter the gearcase has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected, install new pinion bearing in the gearcase as follows:
nents must be thoroughly cleaned and in serviceable conditionRefer to Cleaning and Inspection, Page 6-8
1Assemble the following components of OMC Pinion Bearing Remover and Installer PIN 391257 as shownAssemble :
-20 Y2 inHex Head Screw in0.0Flat Washer
PN 326584 Spacer PN 326574 InstallerRemover PN 326587 Washer (y16 inx in 0.0 PN 391260 Plate and Bearing PN 326582 Rod CD -20 inHex Head Screw
2Apply OMC Needle Bearing Assembly Grease to the 18 needle bearings and insert them into the bearing case
3Place the bearing on the installer tool with the lettered side of the
bearing facing the top of the gearcaseUse OMC Needle Bearing Assembly Grease to hold the bearing on the toolIncorrect installation of the pinion bearing in the gearcase drastically reduces the life of the bearingThe bearing is tapered so that when installed correctly, its shape compensates for stresses in the gearcase and allows full bearing contactWhenever gearcase is disassembled, the pinion bearing should be checked to ensure that it has been installed with the lettering facing up
