GQl 16Locate the propeller shaft assembly and orient the forward bearing housing with the shifter detent toward the topPush the shift detent lever down into REVERSE positionBe sure the thrust bearing and the thrust washer are properly positionedInsert the propeller shaft assembly into the gearcase, being sure to align the shift housing pin with hole in forward end of gearcase housingTriple-Guard greaseInstall the O-ring into the shift rod coverPlace the shift rod grommet and shift rod spacer (TX models) on the shift rodGrease the threaded end of the shift rod and insert it through the cover bushingTurn the shift rod while pushing it through the bushing to avoid damaging the O-ring

f131 18Apply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to both sides of new shift rod cover gasket Position the gasket on the gearcaseInsert the shift rod and cover assembly into the gearcase as shown, and thread the shift rod into the shifter detent about four turns19Move shift rod from side to side while pushing on the propeller shaft to ensure proper alignment of the bearing housing locator pin into the locator pin hole in the gearcaseTap the end of the propeller shaft with plastic or rawhide mallet to fully seat the bearing housingf14l 20Apply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to the threads of the shift rod cover screwsInstall the screwsTighten the screws to torque of 60-84 inIbs(7-9 Nm)
