Gearcase ServicingColt, Junior Removal
1To avoid accidental starting of engine while servicing, twist and remove spark plug lead
2Remove the propeller and attaching hardware from the gearcase3 Remove the two screws attaching the gearcase to the exhaust housing 4Withdraw the gearcase carefully to avoid damaging the driveshaft and water tube5Remove the oil filldrain plug to drain the gearcase
Disassembly Before disassembling the gearcase, refer to Cleaning and Inspection at the beginning of this section If gearcase is being disassembled for water pump repair kit, do not remove the driveshaft or pull it out of the gearcase so far that the pinion drops out of position

1Remove the two screws
Lift the impeller housing and the driveshaft from the gearcaseRemove and discard the water tube grommet from the impeller housingLift the impeller from cavity of the gearcaseIf the water pump components are worn extensively, rebuild the water pump using water pump repair kit
