16Install the pinion and driveshaft as follows:
Degrease tapers of the pinion and driveshaftInstall the pinion and driveshaft into the gearcasePush the driveshaft bearing housing in position Lightly coat the threads of the pinion nut with outboard lubricant While holding the pinion nut with an 1116 inwrench, and the driveshaft with an OMC Driveshaft Holding Socket Pin PIN 316612, tighten the nut to torque of 40-45 ftIbs(54-60 Nm)Pad handleof the wrench to prevent damage to the gearcaseIncorrect torque of the pinion nut will reduce pinion lifeDo
not reuse damaged pinion nutsr:J9l 17Apply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to threads of the housing retaining screwsInstall and tighten the screws to torque of 96-120 inIbs(11-14 Nm)1201 18Apply OMC Triple-Guard grease to two new shift housing O-ringsInstall the large O-ring on the housingSlide the bushing then the small O-ring onto the shift rodApply OMC Adhesive to threads of the bushingAssemble the housing, O-ring and bushingTighten the bushing to 48-60 inIbs(5-7 Nm)f211 19Thread the shift lever and connector assembly onto the shift rod nine turns
