29, Models using retainer plate and retaining rings: Slide the bearing housing retainer plate into position over the propeller shaft Using OMC Retaining Ring Pliers PIN 331045, install the two retaining rings with their gap toward the topRetaining rings are under extreme pressure during installationWear safety glasses and proceed with care to avoid unsnapping the ring from the pliersLook inside the gearcase and make sure that the retaining rings are seated in the grooves in the gearcase Thread two OMC Guide Pins PIN 383175 into the retainer plate to align holes in the plate with holes in the propeller shaft bearing housingDo not thread guide pins more than two turns into the retainer plate Carefully apply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to the O-ring flange and aft support flange of the bearing housingDo not allow sealer to contact either forward thrust surface or bearings in the housingAlign the bearing housing on the guide pins with the word "UP" toward the top and the drain slot at the bottomPress the bearing housing into the gearcase and tap the housing in with soft mallet to seat the O-ring Apply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to the threads of the four retaining screwsInstall two of the screws into the bearing housing finger tightRemove the guide pins and install the other two s(,;rewsThen, tighten all four screws to torque of 120-144 in.lbs(14-16 Nm)30Models using bearing housing retainers: Carefully apply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to the O-ring flange and aft support flange of the bearing housingDo not allow sealer to contact either forward thrust surface or bearings in the housingInstall the housing in the gearcase with screw holes in vertical position and anode facing downPress the bearing housing into the gearcase and tap the housing with soft face mallet to seat the O-rings Install the two retainersTorque the screws to 18-20 ftIbs(24-27 Nm).0
