from the gearcase
13Inspect the upper end of the shift rod for burrsRemove the burrs using 400 grit wet or dry sandpaperSlide the shift rod out of the gearcase141 14Remove all the components from the propeller shaft
except the clutch dogInspect the components for excessive wear
E.I shaftBe careful not to lose the two detent balls
